Introduction

Education is evolving to prepare students with the essential 6 C’s of 21st-century skills in today’s fast-paced world. The 6 Cs of education—critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, citizenship, and character—are key skills that help students succeed academically and beyond. To visually represent these important skills, I created a handmade school mural that beautifully illustrates each of the 6 C’s.

In this post, I’ll share a step-by-step process, complete with photos, to inspire teachers and schools to create their own 6 C’s of education wall decorations.

Why Teach the 6 C’s with Visual Displays?

Visual reminders help students internalize and understand values. The wall completes:

  • Repetition through visibility: Constant exposure to the 6 Cs helps students recognize and demonstrate these skills regularly.
  • Promotes conversation: Teachers and students can refer to the wall during lessons or discussions—“How did you use collaboration today?”
  • Reinforces learning goals: It connects daily routines and assignments to higher-order thinking and life skills.

Designing and Cutting the Artwork

I first designed and cut out all the elements needed for the wall, making sure each C had a unique but cohesive design. This includes carefully cutting out the letters, symbols, and illustrations that represent each skill.

Arranging the Layout on the Floor

Before gluing the pieces to the wall, I laid them out on the floor to determine alignment and placement. He helped make final adjustments to the layout and spacing.

Assembling the Mural on the Wall

Once I was satisfied with the arrangement, I carefully taped the cutouts to the school wall. Bold colors and eye-catching visuals make the wall stand out, creating an impressive educational display for students.
